OUTSIDERS is the artistic, aesthetic and collaborative culmination of the first chapter of Memes Outside. Where the Memes Outside collection commented on street art and NFTs by publishing the coordinates of public work alongside the blockchain address of the art held before it, OUTSIDERS was made in deliberate collaboration with the Sydney muralist Nhung Le, whose work fills the wall behind the phone and who had never touched a blockchain before.
It became Meme Card #347 in The Memes by 6529, the first work by a new artist to join the collection after curation passed to the community in SZN11, and it was made both by and for the OUTSIDERS community. The image now covers the second edition of the Memes Outside book, which is held alongside the first edition in the National Library of Australia and sold at cost around the world, so every copy carries it a little further. That is the quiet wager of CC0: that art gains its value by being seen rather than by being scarce. Holding an edition of OUTSIDERS is a statement of alignment with the philosophy, community and exploration.
OUTSIDERS also forms the basis of an international community bringing NFTs outside in play and artistic endeavour. Visit outsiders.articulate.art to see the full gallery.
